Just because I can't help myself, I e-mailed Chicken George to ask about the key I'm about to purchase. And he answered!

QUOTE
Its made of wood fiber board. Thanks George

He answered really quickly. There are only 20 left. You all better hurry.

Oh Keith. I was drunk and rambling. I do think you're a great poster and my birthday wishes were sincere.

Sorry if I scared you.

haha. No, you didn't scare me at all, and thank you for the compliment!

Interesting history about the aks/axe thing AnnieMoon. I had no idea it was anything more that just pure mispronunciation that caught on. I guess I'm just biased against it because my daughter's 2nd grade teacher (who was black and who we adored) used the term. It always bugged me that someone who was teaching young children to spelling and phonics would still say the word improperly.

In other news....
I'm leaving Sunday morning for my week long Stampin' Up! convention. It will be fun but I'm not sure I'll be able to sneak on here much (my gal pals just don't understand the joy that is BB or HT). I'll miss y'all in chat. Just didn't want anyone to think I'd been thrown under a bus or defected to Jokers next week.

I added a few updates to the Nicknames/Acronyms thread, but could use some help. I'd like to know who created the following nicknames, so I can credit them. Also, if I've forgotten to add a nickname that is being frequently used, (or an acronym that should be added), please let us know and we'll consider adding it to the list.

Here are the recently-added names~ let me know if any are your creation, or if you know positively who came up with them:

Ambore
Dustbin
Jammhmm
Jenbot
Haunted Rain
Jenbot. Me. MEMEMEME!

Your name shall appear in the annals of human history. (Otherwise known as the Acronyms and Nicknames thread.)

I think you mean the annals of hamster history, tooletta!

This is too cool. Thank you!
*sniffle*
I think I've sprung a leak.
gforce
tooletta, I think the "Dustbin" spelling was actually a (very prophetic) typo by lifeonhold in chat during the premiere show. It immediately caught on!!
lifeonhold
Thanks gforce, I am indeed the accidental creator of Dustbin in chat during the season premiere.

Sometimes it pays to have a strained relationship with ones keyboard.
uaintjak
I called Jameka "Jammhmmeka" in a post, but it was only the once, so I'm not taking credit for the current incarnation.
tooletta
I'm going to add Jammhmmeka next to Jammhmm, and give you credit for the first one, Jak. That's actually the one I remember as surfacing first. Anyone claiming the second can let us know.

Life also gets written-up. But only in the best way.

Happy birthday, FMC!
MrsGryn
Hammy Birthday FeedMeCoffee! Hope you and Murray had some fun today and lots of nachos and birthday cake!
tooletta
Happy Birthday Fisty, you sexy beast. The facelift looks amazing on you!
lurker
Fancy birthday duds, Fisty...I like the new look!
ZGeist
The new look is fantastic. Love the layout and love the look. Congratulations to all involved on a great success
Kyara
With regards to the new look, could someone please let me know if what I'm seeing is what everyone else is seeing?

All I see is 4 red lines with the following:
1st red line
HoH, Noms, Veto, Task info
2nd red line
Lots of different links like the chat link and the backup board
3rd red line
All of the live feed links
4th red line

I don't see any sort of picture, banner, or anything else. Should I be?

Thanks!
Magpie
Credit goes to Tsy for the new banner design. Isn't he awesome? (And dreamy, too!)

ETA: I'll take a look at your account, Kyara.

ETAA: I made a change...let me know if it worked!

Was it just my stupid CBS local affiliate, or did everyone get a Nicole Kidman movie trailer around 9:38pm Eastern time, during Dick's broadcast airing of his rant against Jen after the Veto comp, and then a longer than usual bunch of commercials? If it was just me, crap, I wanted to see how they edited that. If it was everyone, I call foul on CBS for "accidentally" cutting in just as Dick was rev'ing up.
Magpie
I'm not sure I understand, Sophy. The show is heavily edited prior to airing, why would they put in extra commercials to hide something?
Anders44Leafs
maybe they added extra commercials due to complaints from previous time zones? Illinois is central time zone, right? maybe easter time zone folks didn't appreciate something?

just guessin, i am still waiting to see it
Magpie
Central time zone viewers see the show the same time as Eastern time zone viewers, right?
TVJunkie
There's no conspiracy. No accident involved. That's just they way they edited the episode.
Sophy
Sorry I wasn't clear in my original post -- what I really wanted to know was did anyone else have their broadcast show interrupted tonight at about 9:38 Eastern, during Dick's rant at Jen in the BY after the POV? Or was it just my affiliate coming in too early with a commercial? On my channel, Dick was yelling at Jen, and then, without the usual BB eye coming on, signaling the end of a segment, it just cut Dick off mid-yell and went right to a movie promo for "Invasion." They obviously came in with the commercial too early, before the segment was over. And then there were more commercials than usual before returning to the show. And I was just wondering if that happened for everyone, or just our local station (yes, in Illinois).

My "calling foul" remark was a bad attempt at sarcasm about CBS and how they edit.
Magpie
Huh, you got me, Sophy. Sounds like a screw-up to me, but I admit I wasn't paying close attention to the show so I wouldn't have noticed something like that.

Bringing this BBUK comment over from another thread:

QUOTE(Roxy61)
I've been watching it for 3 years and have never ever seen the level of violence and abuse seen here.

Well, when I referred to incidents on BBUK I was thinking of the lovely incident involving racism last year that actually caused sponsors to pull out and Tony Blair to find himself actually discussing Big Brother, of all things.

But as far as violence goes, there was furniture throwing and threats of "I'll kill you" and the like when security had to be called in and pull someone out back in 2004. I don't think that guy got kicked out of the house, either. Oh, and the same year with the two chicks going at it. (And not in THAT way) Geesh!

But, you know, what with the Brits dislike of ice and all, I can see how ice tea over someone's head is way more egregious.

Cheers!
Magpie
I don't watch BB UK, but from what I've read, it appears to be way wilder than our version is. I'm surprised they haven't killed each other on that show yet.
Tsylyst
Kyara, if you're using Firefox, you may need to turn off the ad blocker for HT. Since we don't use ads, this shouldn't cause you any grief.

Me too. Hell. Between Ziggy and Chanelle doing it in the shower and in the common bedroom and .. or Charley slapping Billi, I don't know where the perception of civilized Brits comes from.

Sophy-I just got home and was watching my TiVo'd version. Yes-the exact same thing happened to me. I had seen your comment earlier so I was watching out for it. Since it appears you were not watching in Northern VA, it looks like it wasn't just your affiliate.

Weirdness.
Sophy
Thanks Beehoppy! Maybe I'll watch it on Innertube and see what I/we missed. I suspect it was probably just a minute or less.
Daisylou
I was in the chat last night and noticed the edit. Some others did too.
Let me know how the Innertube version is because I would like to see what I missed, be it 30 seconds or less.

I send my roommate out to the garage at that time of the month. Is that bad?

moved from the Dick thread. There's enough ragging in there as it is. ~tooletta
TVJunkie
I promise. There was no edit. Dick was yelling at Kail, and he ended with some lame comment and the program went straight to the "Invasion" add. All time zones got the same thing. Really.
jerrye25
Same thing happened to me. I remember saying out loud that those were some strange cuts. If I'm not mistaken, I noticed it twice. They seemed to come back from commercial with a quick cut also. It was about 15 minutes in, they show the Live Feeds commercial, then quickly go right to Eric getting ready for veto. I'm not sure if that one was on purpose or not, but after seeing the second one, the one you guys are talking about, they both stuck out in my head.
Sophy
Thanks for your confirmations, jerrye25 and Daisylou. When I get a chance to check out Innertube I'll let you know if we missed anything much.

TVJ - I really didn't think it was a conspiracy or even anything to do with editing, and I know now it happened to everyone. I suspect it was just a couple of mistakenly timed cutaways and returns between commercial breaks (human error/timing issue). And certainly not a big deal, I get that.

Obviously Skippy is apprenticing at broadcast editing.

We got the eye on the West Coast. The rant ended with "Thanks for chiming in, Kail!" I don't remember if that was the same lame comment the East Coast's ended on.
tooletta
Then yes, those of us on eastern time did indeed get cut off. The last thing Dick said was to Kale, "And you don't really care, because if she gets pulled off, then you might get pulled off, too, and you might both still be here." Then there was an abrupt cut to commercial.

I thought it was odd when it aired, and made sure to pay close attention last night when I was recapping the broadcast.

Thanks for helping clear that up, Cami.
TVJunkie
That's odd. I'm on the west coast, and I didn't get "the eye". I got the comment and the commercial. The end. Just like everyone else.
Cami
I watched the East Coast live stream with everyone in chat, and then watched the West Coast broadcast in my time later. Definitely the full tirade where I was, followed by the eye. Probably some funky obscure technical reason for the editing that they managed to work out in time for the West Coast showing.
MrsGryn
Would it make a difference if you were watching different affiliates?

FWIW, I don't think there was any sort of evil plot to not show the tea dumping. BB has been showing the hamsters in a heavily edited light since BB1, when Eddie the one-legged cancer survivor was telling racist jokes. Those never made the broadcast, either. It is what it is.

Yeah that's right, people. MrsGryn has wasted a number of summers on Big Brother. Please send help.
Beehoppy
I'm pretty sure, edited or not Teagate wouldn't have made it to air until tonight anyway. Tuesday always concludes with the box slam at the end of the POV ceremony. Teagate was not until later that evening, so I still have hope we'll see it tonight.

And I do think we'll see it-too highly discussed not to. Am I confident they'll show it in proper context? No. But I do think they will show it.
buffyvol
They've been showing clips of Jen getting the tea poured on her in the commercials for tonights show. I was surprised to see it. I'd have thought they'd save that for the actual show.
AnnieMoon
Since it looks like we're going to get an endurance HOH competition tonight, I'm sending out good vibes that the site's server holds up. Good luck to the admins and mods, and thank you for all you do to keep things running smoothly!
