If there is a house fire, I'm saving my KitchenAid mixer first.

I named mine Trixie. She's a part of the family.

Ooh, that's a good one! I use brown sugar once a year (at Thanksgiving), so I always have a bunch left over, taking up space until it turns into a brick.

I don't even have any cookbooks. I'm just addicted to myrecipes.com.

Um, wow. That was a MAJOR brainfart. I meant to say that I'm addicted to allrecipes.com. I've obviously lost it!

All good books! We have some of the same ones. I also love Julia's, The Way to Cook.

Has anyone purchased a Giada DeLaurentiis book? I used to hate her show but it has slowly grown on me and her cookbooks look so good.

I've got Way to Cook, too. I'm a complete mark for Julia

I haven't seen any of Giada's books. I have mixed feelings about Giada. I don't think she is much of a cook but I do kind of like her show and the foods she has on her shows. She strikes me as someone who probably has a good grasp of party/catering food, presentation, etc.

I'm still not sure what to make of her. Her books look absolutely great and I do like the food she cooks but she herself irritates me so much! Not as much as when she first came on the scene and certainly not as much as that uberannoying Rachel Ray! Yummo! EVOO! Grrrr-o!!!!

I think I will suck it up and purchase a Giada book for my collection. More food porn for me!

Yep~ Those are some great brownies, Genie. I used to manage a Bed and Breakfast and those were one of my staple recipes, (NO nuts, though!). People loved them.

I don't make them with nuts either. These things freeze divinely. I make a huge double batch, cut them up, wrap them in tin foil, and freeze them. When I want a brownie I pop one in the microwave. They are awesome. Last batch I made though I overcooked. I've just moved and haven't quite figured out this oven yet. They still taste good, just a bit hard around the edges. They are so easy and taste so darn good.

I've done this trick to soften brown sugar: Fold a piece of foil up and lay it on top of the sugar, on the foil, lay a moist paper towel. Close the container for a little (15 min or so) and when you open it up again, the sugar should be softer.

You can also just leave the heal of a loaf of bread in the container with the brown sugar. It keeps it soft. This also works with cookies that you prefer to remain nice and soft and chewy, such as tollhouse cookies.

I love cooking! I love Cookbooks! I hate baking though. The recipes that I use most are found in my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, as somebody else mentioned and I have almost of the entire series of Companies Coming Series as well.

The Companies Coming Series uses everday ingredients that are found commonly in your pantry. Just everyday items. They have recipes for everyday meals as well as recipes for special occasions.

I don't know if they are a well known series in the States but I really enjoy using them.

I'm just the opposite. I cook because I have to feed my children. I bake because I enjoy it.

I have one I posted on my new blog for a co-worker of my hubby. It's whole wheat pizza dough that actually tastes good. I use flax flour too so it's loaded with fiber and omega-3's. It's pretty much guilt-free if you use veggie toppings (cook them first or pizza gets soggy). I worked on this one a long time, my poor dad has diabetes and a bum ticker and he REALLY missed pizza.
