dc20willsave Posted April 13, 2017 I've been a bigger fan of The Chew but that's mainly due to a love of Carla Hall that goes back to her time on Top Chef. Also a crush on Michael Symon but that's less important than Carla.
AVorlon Posted April 13, 2017 On to late night talk shows, where I was sad to see that David Letterman's mom just passed away. She was always welcome on the show, whether she was baking pies, doing the Top 10 list, or being a special correspondent at the winter Olympics She was 95. Speaking of Letterman, he sure looks different with his "retirement beard". In case anyone didn't notice, Jimmy Kimmel has a beard now too, in honor of Dave. MrsGryn Posted April 13, 2017 I was sorry to hear of Letterman's mother's passing. Her presence on the show was always fun and a gentle reminder of the more human side of David. dc20willsave, I agree about Carla! She was always my favorite on Top Chef and the same for The Chew whenever I happen to catch it.
AVorlon Posted May 3, 2017 (edited) Very unusual and emotional monologue from Jimmy Kimmel on Monday night, about his newborn son, who was born with a congenital heart condition. This comes just as Congress is debating how to deal with pre-existing conditions, before they adjourn on Friday. He talks about how his son will always have a pre-existing condition, and how the survival of your child should never depend on how much money you make. http://abc.go.com/shows/jimmy-kimmel-live/video/featured/VDKA3817329 Edited May 3, 2017 by AVorlon
MrsGryn Posted May 5, 2017 It was very touching to watch him speak. Thank you for sharing the video link.
AVorlon Posted May 19, 2017 (edited) Julie Chen appears as a guest on Stephen Colbert's show. I'm guessing this waa the first of many appearances, the next one probably being when Big Brother starts up in a month. She used to do this on Craig Ferguson's show, but he has moved on, and now Colbert is getting the honor http://www.cbs.com/shows/the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert/video/wCZ4CZL4b2AdUGvzplWtSOLY9QItGsMq/julie-chen-broke-the-2016-election-results-to-the-big-brother-cast/ Edited May 20, 2017 by AVorlon
AVorlon Posted August 25, 2017 I was sorry to hear that Jay Thomas passed away yesterday. People who watched David Letterman for a long time will remember him as the guy who showed up every year at Christmas to throw footballs at a giant meatball on the top of the Christmas tree. It was a tradition that lasted many, many years.
elizabethann Posted August 25, 2017 He also had a recurring role on Cheers as Carla's husband, a hockey player. This is very sad.
jerrye25 Posted August 25, 2017 He was also great on Murphy Brown. It is sad.
AVorlon Posted November 7, 2017 (edited) Just a heads-up that Conan is doing live shows this week from the Apollo theater in NYC. The Wednesday and Thursday shows should be interesting, with Bill Clinton on Wednesday, and Thursday is Will Farrell, Woody Harrelson, John Lithgow and Linda Cardelini. AVorlon Posted April 11, 2018 I enjoyed watching Steven Colbert tearing up the interview cards last night, like Craig Fergusson always did. Then he threw them backwards, and I was hoping for the shattering glass sound from the Letterman show. Ah, the nostalgia for the good old days, way back in 2012. Speaking of which, I think the CBS Evening News could use a different anchor, so I'm going to propose bringing back Katie Couric.
AVorlon Posted March 23, 2019 It's been nearly a year since I posted here on this topic, but I have something to say. David Letterman was on the Ellen show this week, saying that he thought he was on TV for about ten years too long, and no one had the guts to fire him. Ellen reassured him that everyone loved him, but he probably had a good point. I think Colbert gives new energy to the show that was lacking, and maybe Dave was just hanging on to try to outlast Leno, just out of spite. He retired right after Leno was replaced by Jimmy Fallon.
