A Guide to Live Feeds and CBS All Access

Recommended Posts

So what's with the change to the live feeds subscriptions?

Last summer, CBS announced that it was starting a new online streaming service, All Access. This service streams current and classic CBS TV shows (including all previous seasons of "Big Brother"). The network charges $5.99 a month for this service, which is among efforts by networks to appeal to folks that only use streaming to watch TV instead of broadcast or cable. HBO launched a similar service around the same time.

Aside from other CBS TV shows, what else do I get with my All Access subsription related to "Big Brother"?

Of course you get the four live feeds and feed archive, including a list of "highlights" producers think you might want to check out. There are also chatrooms, exlusive houseguest interviews and a Members-Only Vote, which has in the past been used to decide things such as what foods the Have Nots will be given.

OK, so how do I sign up?

Go to the Live Feeds page on the CBS website. Find the link to sign-up and click. You will be asked to create an account (you might already have a CBS account that you can use if you have registered to vote in the past for things such as Team America or America's Favorite) and provide payment information. Once this is complete, you will be billed once a month (starting on the date your free 1-week trial runs out) until you call to cancel. For example, if your free trial runs out on the 18th of the month, you will be charged around the 18th of the month each month. According to CBS, the cost will shake out to 25% less than previous years if you cancel when BB is over. If you wait to sign up until the feeds start, you will end up paying for three months of the service, so just under $18 for the season.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Call the Customer Service at 888-274-5343 or contact CBS All Access Support here for help.

Where can I watch the feeds?

With All Access, you can use your computer, web-enabled smartphone, tablet, Chromecast or Roku players to watch the feeds in HD. If you're using your smartphone or tablet, keep a close eye on your data usage if you aren't connected to Wi-Fi.

I live in Canada! What about me!?

CBS All Access is geo-locked for anyone outside the U.S. because of streaming rights of other CBS programming, and since the BB feeds are now only available through All Access...Canada is blocked. This is not the first time Canadians have been locked out of the feeds. But you know those Canadian folks – anyone that can figure out that cheese curds and gravy make french fries taste even better has enough ingenuity to figure out a way around the roadblock, which includes needing a U.S. credit card. Hopefully Fisty's Canadian friends will post tips in this thread when they figure it out.

Posted today re: Canada viewing the USA feeds

http://www.hamsterwatch.com/:

Canada and other countries outside USA are officially excluded because the feeds are included with all CBS shows, and all TV sites in all countries use geoblocking.. however you can use a VPN set to a USA server and a USA credit card or an American Express card to sign up.. Amex prepaid gift cards will also work - use your own street address with any USA city/state/zip (pick some random business from Google).. Amex gift cards are available in Canada at 7-Eleven, Circle K, Shoppers Drug Mart, and other stores - find a store near you.. for Amex gift cards, enter the four digits above the card number on the front for the verification code

A VPN will probably be necessary outside USA to watch feeds as well.. Hola might work but please read this new report about Hola security concerns.. this is why I recommend Hide My Ass as a proven, secure VPN - they also have best in class customer service

I ordered the CBS ALL Access and had a question. Derrick BB16 did a special chat event yesterday and I couldn't view it on my APP so I contacted support. There was also no link to view Live Feeds. on the APP either. The only way to contact them is via a form on their website, no phone number. I informed them I had purchased the APP. They didn't really respond to all my questions (surprise!) but they did include a couple things I think might be helpful:

1)The chat feature is only available from the full site from a desktop/laptop computer.

2) The Big Brother Live Feeds have been incorporated into the CBS All Access product. The Big Brother Live Feeds will become available after the double two night television premiere. If you wish to receive the Live Feeds and not a CBS All Access subscriber, you will need to subscribe to receive the Live Feeds. An app update will be released to include the Live Feeds link in the near future.

So, if you want to use the chat feature it must be through the full site, not a tablet or phone. They'll be putting out an update to the APP to view the live feeds.

I signed up also. The Derrick chat was just 1000 monkeys typing at keyboards, asking every question I'm sure he's been asked. Also, if you blink, you miss Derrick's response because it only caches like the last ten responses or so. It was a mess and part of why I never touch the chat while watching the feeds.

I contacted CBS to find out if I could watch the feeds through the CBS APP. Based on their response, the answer is no.

Does Big Brother Have An App To Watch The Live Feeds?

There is no app for the Big Brother Live Feeds. To stream the Big Brother Live Feeds, you'll need to use a computer or visit our website via your mobile web browser on your smartphone or tablet.

I can still view the old seasons of BB through the APP on my tablet or phone but not the live feeds. I'll just continue to do it the way I did last year and watch the feeds through the browser on a tablet or phone.

I don't know if they just added it or I didn't notice this before but there's not a Mobile selection under FAQ for Big Brother Live Feeds on the CBS site.

Edited to add I received this from CBS Support today:

An app update will be released to include the Live Feeds link in the near future. Currently, you can browse to the Live Feeds from the following link with your mobile browser and sign in with your CBS All Access subscription credentials.

Quick little note to help answer some questions about CBS APP and live feeds/chat, etc. I consolidated my responses from CBS Support. By 'near future' it could mean next week or BB18. Feel free to share.

I've had All Access since it began, so no problems with that. However, when I first tried to get the feeds, it bounced me from the app back to the browser, back to the app, which then caused my iPad to go into a reboot loop for over an hour. It now holds the browser without passing back to the app.

The bottom line: enter through a browser or use your phone on wifi. Do not use iOS app.

ETA: this is an iPad2 using iOS 8.3

If you have a Roku account and paid for CBS All Access, you can watch the feeds on your TV. The quality is very good and of course no annoying ads. It's a bit awkward to switch between cameras because you need to back out of each view to select a new one, but still kind of nice if you like to to watch from your sofa.

Does anyone know if CBS Access can be canceled online? I want to get it for the feeds but was so irritated last time I bought the feeds for BB. For some reason it was a pain to cancel.
